Former SBLSD student Corinne Stoddard won an impressive bronze medal in the women’s 1,500 short-track speedskating race at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games. She made history as the first U.S. medal in short-track speedskating since 2018 and first women’s short track medal in 16 years. It is also the first time the Americans have ever medaled in the 1500m race.

Now 24 years old, Corinne previously attended Emerald Hills Elementary, Lakeridge Middle School and Bonney Lake High School. She started skating from a young age and moved to train with the US National Team in her late teens. She also won three medals at the 2024 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships and competed in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

She’s still remembered at Bonney Lake High School by teacher Reyla Zumhofe as funny, lighthearted, and determined.

“She missed more school than most students because of competitive skating, but she always communicated and kept her grades up. She was well liked and had a lot of friends,” Zumhofe told the Bonney Lake Insider.

Congratulations, Corinne! Your determination is admirable and inspirational. Our district is proud of you.
