AFJROTC earns top rating on first unit assessment

Bonney Lake High School’s Air Force JROTC aced its first official Unit Assessment on Jan. 28, conducted by the regional director of the Headquarters AFJROTC at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.

The Unit Assessment is a Congressional requirement conducted annually to ensure that administration, instructors and cadets are following all applicable AFJROTC regulations. The BLHS unit scored an impressive 98.5 with an “Exceeds Standards,” the highest rating attainable. The evaluation consisted of a mass uniform inspection, a drill routine, color guard sequence as well as the cadets delivering a mission brief that detailed all the things they’ve done in the past year. It also evaluated if the school is providing the required logistical and administrative support to the program.

This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work of our BLHS cadets, in addition to the dedication and leadership of Major (Ret) Joseph Haggerty and Master Sergeant (Ret) Giovanna Daddio for their mentorship.

In addition to the Unit Assessment, the AFJROTC team also competed in their second drill competition of the school year at Peninsula High School at the end of January. They participated in a series of events including, academic, physical fitness, unarmed and armed drill, colorguard and individual armed exhibition drill.
